Black Flag release new song ‘Down in the Dirt’

Hardcore punk band legends Black Flag are currently in the studio putting final touches on their new album. The bands current roster includes Ron Reyes (vocals), founder Greg Ginn (guitar), Dave Klein (bass), and Gregory Moore (drums).

The band originally formed in Hermosa Beach, California back in 1976 by guitarist Greg Ginn and became one of the most respected and influential bands in the punk scene and also becoming one of the central players in the creation of hardcore punk.

Black Flag have released a single off the new album entitled ‘Down in the Dirt’. You can listen to it below.

Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman passes away

As per Slayer’s Facebook page,

 

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

Newsted added to Gigantour 2013

Newsted, the new band led by former Metallica, Voivod and Flotsam And Jetsam bassist Jason Newsted, has been confirmed for this year’s edition of Gigantour. Also scheduled to appear on the bill are headliners Megadeth, along with Device, HELLYEAH, and Death Division. More to be announced soon.

Newsted kicked off its first-ever U.S. tour on Friday, April 19 at Red House in Walnut Creek, California. The 14-date trek will conclude on May 23 in Asbury Park, New Jersey and will lead into a number of European festival appearances for the band, which is completed by Staind guitarist Mike Mushok, drummer Jesus Mendez Jr. and guitarist Jessie Farnsworth.

Newsted has just completed recording its first full-length album, to be released later this year. Newsted began mixing the effort earlier in the month, with more details to be announced soon.

Newsted‘s debut EP, “Metal”, sold around 6,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 62 on The Billboard 200 chart.

AOL Music shutting down

Word is slipping out that AOL MUSIC is shutting down TODAY (4/26).

AOL MUSIC Editor DAN REILLY tweeted, “Well, we all just got laid off. AOL MUSIC is finished,” and then followed up, “Sitting in an HR meeting right now, trying to negotiate keeping our computers for a few more days.”

AOL MUSIC Hip-Hop Editor PAUL CANTOR tweeted, “Just lost my job. Actually I’m in the room losing it right this second, while tweeting. So yeah, hit me with any opportunities.”

MEDIABISTRO.COM reports, “SPINNER.COM, a rock-music news site under the AOL MUSIC banner, announced suddenly on THURSDAY afternoon that it was shutting down. Minutes later, it said in a tweet that the entire music editorial division of the media giant, which owns THE HUFFINGTON POST, was closing.”

SPINNER tweeted, “All of AOL MUSIC is shutting down. Thank you all for your support. We had such a blast.”

Black Sabbath release new single ‘God is Dead?’

Black Sabbath have released a single “God is Dead?’ off of their forthcoming new album ’13′. You can hear it below.

BLACK SABBATH have announced four summer shows in North America in support of the release of their new album, 13, due out June 11. Tickets for the Live Nation-produced tour will go on sale Saturday, April 20 at LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com. The dates include stops in Holmdel, NJ (NY-area), Los Angeles, Seattle and Toronto, ON.

Black Sabbath have announced European tour dates for November/December. Black Sabbath recently recorded their new album ’13′ in Los Angeles, California with producer Rick Rubin. This is the first time that Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler have recorded together since 1978. Drums were recorded by Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk following original drummer Bill Ward’s decision to bow out of the reunion. The new album will be released on June 11 via Vertigo/Universal Republic in the U.S. and Vertigo in all other territories.

Alice in Chains release video for ‘Stone’

Alice In Chains have a released a new single named ‘Stone’ off their upcoming album ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ back in March. Now Alice In Chains have released the official video for ‘Stone’ in collaboration with online music and entertainment video site VEVO. The album is due for release on May 28,2013.

Alice In Chains recently announced that they will be performing at the first-ever River City Rock Fest in San Antonio, TX on May 26. Tickets for the event can be purchased on the Ticketmaster website.

Lamb of God announce Europe and UK dates

Continuing the support of their sixth album, ResolutionLAMB OF GOD announces today Europe and UK dates for August.  Historically, the band has always done the June festivals in Europe and this marks LAMB OF GOD’s first appearance at the August festivals.  Headline shows throughout Europe will make up the dates between festivals.  This tour follows the already announced U.S tour scheduled for May and the Metal on the Mountain Retreat in July.

Device lands at #11 on Top 200 chart

Disturbed frontman David Draiman has a new band named Device. Device have released their self titled premiere album on April 9, 2013. The band features in its ranks Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope axeman Virus.

Device landed at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 charts. The album sold 35,000 copies in its first week of release.

Draiman stated – “Thanks so much to all of our fans who’ve helped us make a very strong statement this week. DEVICE debuts at #11 on The Billboard 200! You made this happen, and we will always be in your debt! My brothers and sisters, my blood, you truly have given us life. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
